Microsoft Release ‘System Center Data Protection Manager 2010′

In a technology refresh of the Data Protection Manager product, Microsoft have released not just updated support for their latest products but also new features and tweaks to existing features that DPM admins will no doubt find useful.
Key additions and changes in DPM 2010 include:
- Enhanced virtualization protection, including Hyper-V R2 Cluster Shared Volume / Live Migration scenarios. This includes the ability to restore an entire VM to an alternate host and the ability to recover single-files (Item Level Recovery) from within host-based backups of Virtual Machines.
- Additional protection and recovery capabilities for Windows application servers like SQL Server (self-service restore, auto-protection of databases, scale), Exchange (scale) or SharePoint (scale).
- Native site-to-site replication for disaster recovery to either another DPM server or an off-site cloud provider.
- Centrally managed System State and Bare Metal Recovery within DPM – no add on products.
- No more ‘inactivate alert’ for each alert – you can bulk select them.
- Auto provisioning of additional space for recovery point volumes and replica volumes when full.
- Automatically run consistency checks if replica becomes inconsistent.
- The ability for roaming laptops to get centrally managed policies around desktop protection, so that your laptop data is protected, whether you are connected to the corporate network or remote
Furthermore, a single DPM server can now protect:
- 100 production servers
- 1,000 Windows clients
- 2,000 SQL databases (not instances)
- 25TB SharePoint farms containing 1M items
- 40TB Exchange databases
